Puri Jagannadh wrote and directed the upcoming Indian sports action film Liger, which is co-produced by Karan Johar, Charmme Kaur, Apoorva Mehta, Hiroo Yash Johar, and Jagannadh under the banners of Dharma Productions and Puri Connects. The film, which was shot in both Telugu and Hindi, stars Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday, with Ramya Krishna playing a supporting role.  With this film, Mike Tyson will make his acting debut in the Indian film industry.

Synopsis:

Pushpa Raj is a truck driver and a smuggler who trades red sanders smuggling in the Seshachalam Hills of the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh.

The first instalment of the film is set to be released on December 17, 2021, with the second instalment following in 2022 in Telugu, with dubbed versions in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, and Kannada.

Development

Deverakonda, who plays a stuttering kickboxer, underwent a dramatic physical transformation for the role and travelled to Thailand to train in martial arts.
Janhvi Kapoor was the original choice to play the female lead, but due to scheduling conflicts, she was replaced by Ananya Panday. Mani Sharma composed the film’s score. Tanishk Bagchi, the film’s composer, has also signed on. [10] Boxer Mike Tyson was signed for a cameo appearance in the film in September 2021. Filming began on January 20, 2020, in Mumbai, and the film is tentatively titled Fighter. When the production was halted in March 2020 due to a Coronavirus lockdown in India, 40 days of filming had been completed. The second schedule will begin in Hyderabad. Vijay Deverakonda resumed shooting of the film on 15 September 2021 post COVID-19 pandemic.

Release

The film will be released simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu, as well as dubbed versions in Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. It was originally scheduled to open in theatres in November 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, filming was halted. The film’s theatrical release date was announced in February 2021 as September 9, 2021.
